Whitehall Montana Real Estate
Whitehall is a small, unique community with the major emphasis on agriculture, mining and the school system. Whitehall has a total population of 1184 with surrounding population of 1500. Whitehall was named after a large white ranch home, owned originally by E. G. Brooke. It was used as a stopping place for stages running from Helena to Virginia City. Brooke named his structure "Old Whitehall" after a similar structure in Whitehall, Illinois. The original station and post office is located 4 miles from where Whitehall now stands. The community began to develop after the railroad came through in 1889.
Whitehall's community sits in the heart of the Deerlodge National Forest. Whitehall is within 23 - 60 miles of three major airports, four colleges, five ski resorts, seven major rivers, mountain lakes for fishing and backpacking, four lakes for boating, and three hot springs. There are numerous snowmobiling trails for winter riding and summer trail rides. The mountain ranges surround the valley, which is excellent for big game hunting. There are many recreational opportunities in Whitehall including an outdoor swimming pool, a movie theater, baseball/softball fields, rodeo grounds, bowling alley, tennis courts, a museum and antique shops.
All of this makes for a complete quality of life that is rare in most areas of the U.S. Whether you are looking for a place to settle down to raise a family, a relaxed place to retire or simply for some vacation property to visit several times a year Whitehall Montana real estate offers something for everyone.
